INFO:
Ep. 3 at @bajaaquafarms’ Pacific bluefin tuna ranch! Today, I want to take some time to highlight their unique sustainability initiatives, namely with net upcycling. Baja Aqua Farms upcycles 100% of their used fishing nets from their feed and bluefin seine fleets. Instead of ending up in landfills or at sea as ghost nets, their used nets will be turned into a range of clothing and other products. It’s an expensive and laborious undertaking that I was absolutely enthralled by. With this mindset, the sky’s the limit with their environmental impact reduction measures. Beyond netting, they also engineer and manufacture lots of their own equipment, as well as performing repairs, right in their HQ. This lets them not only adjust to their farm needs on the fly, but it reduces their reliance on imported hardware. I’m excited to see where their sustainability measures will take them in years to come because with this attitude, Baja Aqua Farms can pioneer the industry.
